Christina Aguilera: 'The Voice was special because we're artists'

Christina Aguilera has talked about her decision to leave The Voice after three seasons, saying that being an artist is what made the show special.

Speaking on Jay Leno's chatshow, the 'Your Body' singer said she needed to leave in order to satisfy her creativity.

Aguilera said: "I think what makes the show really special and why people appreciate it is the four of us [Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Aguilera] are artists.

"And we have to go out there, and we have to experience our fans, do our shows, record our records and be artists ourselves so that we can be great coaches."

She continued to say that she will return to the show in future, but is focusing on her "creative soul" at the moment.

Usher and Shakira will act as replacement coaches on season four of the show for Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, who also recently announced that he will be taking a break from The Voice.
