Christina Aguilera says ALMA Award honor 'means a lot to me'

The 2012 NCLR ALMA Awards took place on Sunday, September 16, where Christina Aguilera and many others were honored.

The singer, who just dropped a new single called Your Body, called it a huge honor to be recognized for her humanitarian efforts.

Its a huge honor, she said on the red carpet, NeonLight.com reports. Its important to know that Ive gotten to use my voice in all capacities, and its most important for me to be able to use my voice for good. Having gone to Haiti and Guatemala with the World Food program and seeing first hand how your voice can make a difference means a lot to me.

A private dinner before the event was hosted by Eva Longorias Eva Longoria Foundation, The Huffington Post reports.

The former Desperate Housewives star is a longtime host and producer of the ALMA Awards. She hosted Sunday's show with George Lopez.

The event, which honors Latino artistic achievements in television, film and music, will be televised on NBC on September 21 at 8pm. In the week in between when it occurred and when it airs, there will be events held in the event's honor.
