Team Cee Lo Green & Team Christina Aguilera Talk About Their Experience On The Voice So Far

Theyre the newest additions to Team Cee Lo and Team Christina, having cemented their spots on the superstar coaches teams (at least for now) during last nights Blind Auditions. So what do Jamie Lono, Justin Hopkins, Tony Vincent, Jonathas, Ashley De La Rosa, Anthony Evans, and Monique Benabou have to say about their exhilarating experience on NBCs The Voice, working with such talented artists as Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green? Read the highlights of the contestants most recent interview after the jump.

Question: How did you choose the song you performed during the Blind Auditions?

Anthony Evans: There are a lot of things that go into the song choice on a show this large, especially with that many people, so The Voice is interested in who we are as artists, so they asked us. Usually theres a lot of stuff behind-the-scenes like clearance and making sure that we can do the songs on TV, so they really asked us who we were as artists, and helped us to make the decision to make sure we were doing things legally right. () We narrowed it down with the producers of the show to make sure we were putting our best foot forward in repping who we are as artists.

Question: What is it like to now have fans including celebrities in your corner supporting you on the show?

Justin Hopkins: To have Carson Daly have my back on a show of this level Its been years since we worked together, and he was such an amazing cheerleader for us when we were on the band. To have him stand out there and give us some recognition and love after whats been about 300 shows, it feels kind of like a rebirth, back to 2007.

Jamie Lono: Its definitely really weird. Im not like Jeremy Lin-type status, but its definitely really cool and I couldnt ask for more support from my hometown and the people watching The Voice.

Question: Monique, where do you think Christina Aguilera can take you, musically?

Monique Benabou: Christina can open up a lot of different avenues for me. Shes worked with some of the best song-writers and produ! cers ove r her career and really mixed, different genre influences. I identify with that kind of nomadic style, but still staying true to a very soulful powerhouse kind of voice. I think we have that in common as far as the type of voice that we have and the fact that we do like to experiment with the genres and styles of records we produce.

Question: Tony, how do you think youll have to adjust your singing-style to adapt to The Voice and make it through to the end of the competition?

Tony Vincent: I think Ive been really fortunate enough to be able to be involved with stage productions that really dont skew towards a standard theatrical type of avenue. Its not like I would ever be cast in My Fair Lady or something a little bit more Rodgers & Hammerstein. Being able to sing legit rock-and-roll songs like Green Day and Queen on a stage, I think its going to be a lot easier than people would initially suspect. I feel also really blessed to be involved with Cee Lo because I think what he does as an artist is also incredibly theatrical. His records are incredibly deep sonically and theyre these huge soundscapes that youre kind of impressed every time you hear it even if its multiple times youre hearing something new and interesting, and as an artist, thats what I strive to be, so I dont think its going to be a real leap from the stage to this kind of stage. I just feel really fortunate to be with a coach who sees a much more theatrical presentation; something larger than life and quite epic in scope.

Question: How has the experience and your experience on Team Christina been so far?

Ashley De La Rosa: The experience so far has been incredible. Right now Im actually in school, so they have allowed me to miss class at the moment to take this call. As far as my school, my friendstheyre all supp! ortive, but its kind of strange with the new fans and all of that, but Im very appreciative and grateful for all of this and its just been an incredible experience; especially being able to work with someone as incredible as Christina Aguilera. I couldnt have asked for anyone better.

Question: Anthony, what sparked your desire to go on the show in the first place, and have you ever participated in any other singing competition shows?

Anthony Evans: It is the first time that Ive done something like this. What sparked my interest initially it was a friend of mine in the industry that Im in right now, his name is Jeremy Camp, he was was sitting at my house and said, Anthony, theres this new show and you need to go and just try it. At first I did the whole, No, no, no. [It was a] pride thing that happened and I was like, No, I dont want to do that. But then as I started spending time at The Voice, then the spark got lit inside of me because I realized this show is no joke. Its not a gimmick. Like, theyre looking for the real thing. They love our stories, but the show isnt primarily about our stories, its about our voice. Thats what I know everybody on this call has worked on, their craft. So thats what got me really interested in working on something like this. () Im hoping the show will broaden what I do.
