Green Days Billie Joe Armstrong joins The Voice as mentor on Christina Aguileras team
While Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green have already started assembling their roster of guest mentors to help coach their teams on The Voice, Christina Aguilera finally added her first mentor, Billie Joe Armstrong.
Late Thursday, NBC and Armstrong sent a statement to The Associated Press, confirming that he is joining the Emmy-nominated show to help coach the contestants on Aguileras team. The Green Day frontman added that he and his family are big fans of the show.
He noted that what makes The Voice different from other shows is it's not molding artists, it's just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.
Armstrong also added that working with Aguilera has been a lot of fun.
The shows official page also sent out a tweet confirming the news.
The announcement comes just a day after Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas joined Cee Lo Greens team. Other previously announced mentors include Michael Buble, who will work with Blake Sheltons team, and May J. Blige, who was recruited by Adam Levine.
Armstrong began working with Aguilera on Wednesday, notes The Hollywood Reporter.
Armstrongs work on The Voice is a break from his hectic schedule with Green Day. The group just finished working on three albums, the first of which, Uno!, will be released on Sept. 25. They have also been working on two documentaries on the making of the albums.
The Voices third season, which has been in production since last month,! will st ar airing on Sept. 10.
