Christina Aguilera has offered Justin Bieber some advice following his recent troubles and run-ins with the media.

The former child star and singing sensation has urged Bieber to step back from the limelight and focus on himself for awhile. The tips follow a string of headline-hitting incidents this month from Justin which saw the star hit out at a London pap and turn up late for a UK gig.

Christina knows more than most about a life lived in the public eye with the 32-year-old advising Biebs: "You live life and it's hard to grow up in front of a camera. You learn as you get older to take moments for yourself, step away from the camera, re-inspire yourself as an artist, rejuvenate and refresh."

Talking to Hollywood Scoop Aguilera added that the Beauty and the Beat singer has the right to defend himself, adding: "I would tell [Bieber], don't let anything morph you or push you around or have you be something you're not. "

"I 've always been really honest and true to my own roots and been really grounded, not letting myself stray too much."

Meanwhile Bieber might have been upset further by recent comments from his ex Selena Gomez, who has insisted she is happy being single following their split in December 2012.

The gorgeous brunette was making an appearance on Chelsea Lately to promote her new movie Spring Breakers when the blonde host asked her about her romantic life. Though Bieber admitted in a January interview with Rolling Stone magazine he wasn't in the happiest place, Gomez obviously feels the complete opposite. When Chelsea asked the star if she was enjoying being single she replied: "I really am!"

The host then advised her as a young hot star, she's going to be getting inundated with offers. "Enjoy this, girl," she said, "You're 20 years old. You've got a lot of men ahead of you!"
